Define “Broadcast Journalism” in 1-3 sentences.
Televised, Radio, and Internet. Broadcast means to air instantaneously
Current events, News happenings, investigations. Journalism is the reporting of current events.
List and describe the six criteria of newsworthiness.
TITLE DESCRIPTION EXAMPLE
1. Unusualness - news is the different, the unusual, the out of the ordinary. Unusual is more often found in bad news. Example: church roof collapses
2. Significance - Important events that affect many people. Taxes, Elections, Wars, and the economy.
3. Timeliness - Old news isn't news: its history. People want to hear about what is happening now not a month later.
4. Proximity - People want to know about nearby events. Example: Local Apartment fire.
5. Prominence - When well known people, buildings, or places are involved, that is news. If you get arrested for shoplifting, not news but if Zac Effron was that's news.
6. Human Interest - Stories about ordinary people or animals, humorous or dramatic. Heart warming or heart-wrenching stories. These often appear in news because they have human interest
